The Tentmakers of Cairo
Khayamiya Appliqué Exhibition in the Grevillea room by Hany Mahmoud Tentmaker coming directly from Cairo.

Hany is an Egyptian artisan who started his career from a very early age and his needlework is unique.His work travelled to the US,UK,Australia,Europe and several Arab countries and are parts of a private collection in Cairo.

The artist will be selling his work on a strictly cash basis.

Exhibition opening hours
Friday 6th October between 11am and 6pm
Saturday 7th October between 11am and 7pm
Sunday 8th October between 11am and 6pm

For the Love of Egypt 2017 Festival
A cultural event including a gallery of Egyptian art and an exhibition by Hany Mahmoud a tentmaker from Khayameya street coming directly from Cairo to attend our festival. A performance by renown Reda troupe will enchant everyone.

The Red Dusty Road

A Celebration of 40 Years on the Road with Bunna Lawrie and Coloured Stone + After Party.
Join us as we launch Darebin Music Feast 2017 with this very special event, celebrating Australia's premier Aboriginal band, Coloured Stone.

Formed in 1977 by lead singer and songwriter, Bunna Lawrie, Coloured Stone combine rock, ska and reggae with a unique Aboriginal sound incorporating traditional instruments such as clap sticks, didgeridoo, bundawuthada (gong stone) and traditional language. Originally from Koonibba, South Australia on the Nullarbor Plains, they are now recognised worldwide, having performed at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Womadelaide, Big Day Out, Woodford Folk Festival, Barunga Festival, Rainbow Serpent Festival and many, many more.

Joined by past and present band members and some very special guests, including Shane Howard, Kutcha Edwards, Bart Willoughby, Jon Jon Miller and Yung Warriors, the band will take you on a musical journey spanning 40 years. From Black Boy to the Sea Shepherd song, from 1977 until 2017, this is history in the making.

AFTER PARTY:

TIDDXTRA presented by Sovereign Trax Stick around as three tiddas takeover the party, bringing you some of the most energising young voices and DJs in Melbourne. TIDDXTRA is the women creating the future of Indigenous music. Featuring Alice Skye, DJ KYAANZ (Willow Beats) and DJ Soju Gang.

Melbourne City Ballet - Wizard of Oz
''Then close your eyes and tap your heels together three times…"

Melbourne City Ballet's exciting new ballet “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" will arrive at Darebin Arts Centre in October 2017. The company's artists will click their heels together and get a little bit wicked as audiences are taken on the colourful journey of young Dorothy Gale. Dorothy is suddenly transported to the magical land of Oz from her home in Kansas and finds herself embarking on a dangerous journey to find her way home. Will she escape the clutches of the Wicked Witch of the West? Touring across selected venues in Victoria and Tasmania, this production will be a full extravaganza of colour! Melbourne City Ballet is currently one of the country’s fastest growing performing arts organisations and this special event will be the company’s first production to feature here at Darebin Arts Centre. An event not to be missed!"

The Taste of India: Folk Feast 2017
Presented as part of Darebin Music Feast.

Folk music and dance are deeply rooted in everyday life. They are part of spiritual, story-telling, rhythmic and gestural work. This will be presented by new talents including adults and the youngest students and artists in the community. An ancient art form is presented through a series of folk items.
