In this exhibition Rachael has produced a series of large scale paintings that explore the line between figuration and abstraction. Working in her trademark “scratchy style”, this body of work is influenced by Art Brut, Art informal and the COBRA movement of the 1940s and 50s. The combination of oil, enamel and acrylic paint produce rich and textured surfaces and unusual colour combinations on canvases that often teeter on the brink of destruction before being resolved. Having spent the last twelve years working out of a large shed in Adelaide and exhibiting regularly, this will be Rachael’s first solo exhibition in Melbourne.
