The Chandrabhanu Bharatalaya Academy, the original and finest Indian dance school in Australia was established nearly 40 years ago in Richmond, Victoria by Malaysian born artiste and scholar Dr. Chandrabhanu OAM.
The Chandrabhanu Bharatalaya Academy is renowned for its high professional standards and finesse, and over the years the academy has trained hundreds of dancers in Indian classical dance and music, featuring the dance styles of Bharata Natyam, Odissi, Manipuri and Indian tribal folk dances along with Carnatic and Hindustani Indian classical music.
The Academy has been staging productions and performances at the Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre since it opened in 1994. To date the Academy has produced 119 Arangetram dance graduation ceremonies, with many of these events being staged at Darebin Arts & Entertainment Centre.
Every year the Academy presents Nrityanjali, which is the annual school concert by the students of the Chandrabhanu Bharatalaya Academy. This year over 60 students from all levels in the academy will participate in the concert. The performance will also feature a live orchestra of Indian classical musicians from Melbourne and Chennai.
